Why Medical Insurance?

One of the primary functions of health insurance is to make health care more affordable while protecting us from the financial repercussions of accidents and unexpected illnesses that can easily add up to worrying sums. Even healthy people and young adults, who may feel they don’t need health insurance, are not immune from accidents and illnesses that can happen to any of us at any time!
Having health insurance is a wise investment for us all giving ‘peace of mind’.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need health insurance?

Everyone cares about their health but sometimes we can struggle with the costs of staying healthy, or treating an illness or injury. Health insurance is taking the unknown financial costs and transferring it into a clear and manageable premium and taking away the worry in the process. At Foresters our chief aim is to produce cost effective insurance products to the island of Guernsey and Alderney at reasonable prices.

Who is the ideal Foresters member?

Anyone can be a Foresters member, we do not reject or exclude pre-existing illnesses
or injuries and our reasonable prices allow Guernsey residents from all walks of life
to have access to a purpose built insurance plan for the island.

Are there any age limits?

Foresters has no lower or upper age limit. Our members range from only one month
old to over one hundred.

How does it work when you go to the Doctor as a Foresters member?

Visiting the doctor after becoming a member is as simple as it gets, simply check in at the surgery and sign for your States of Guernsey grant (if applicable), attend your consultation and leave. In the case of consultations or blood tests your bill will be forwarded direct to our office. If you have other procedures or injections you will receive an account in the post which can then be forwarded onto us.

How do I know what type of insurance plan is right for me and my family?

Choosing the right plan for you and you family can sometimes be a difficult and onerous task. Our professional team will assist you by providing you with all of the up to date information and advise you on how Guernsey’s health system works to allow you to make the most educated decision about what cover best suits you and your loved ones.

Will I be able to use my current doctor?

Of course, we are able to work with all local General Practice surgeries and other primary care medical professionals provided they are locally registered.

How does the child only policy work?

Our “Child Only” policy is no different to the rest. Parents can apply to cover their child only and have the opportunity to tailor the cover to how they feel will best suit the child. If later down the road you decide to join your child at the Foresters, we can simply group up your memberships for easy renewals and payments.

Is making a claim easy?

At the Foresters we have worked tirelessly to make the claims process as efficient and stress free as possible. Making a claim is a simple as submitting an itemised account to our team and letting our claims team process the charges. If your bill is unpaid, payment will be made directly to the surgery or clinic. If you have already paid, we will reimburse you.

What do you think makes Foresters different to mainstream providers?

The key difference that sets us apart is we are a registered friendly society. This means that we are owned by our members/policyholders. By operating in this way, our key focus is to design our products with the members best interest always at the forefront of our minds. It also means that we do not aim to make a profit each year, which reduces the premiums we charge
to our members.

Does health insurance cover dental?

As part of our insurance policy we do not offer cover for dental treatment however, we do offer ex-gratia grants for dental and optical treatment as part of our “member benefits”.

If my circumstances change can I then amend my cover?

Cover can be amended at anytime during your policy term or at renewal. Just contact a member of our team who will assist with amendments to your policy.
